My story
I became a freelance writer after experiencing firsthand how institutions react to controversial ideas. As AI began reshaping both my professions—law and the military—I set out to explore its broader implications. That exploration led to my first article, where I demonstrated generative AI’s ability to provide legal answers. I submitted it to The Army Lawyer, the JAG Corps’ official publication.
At first, there was enthusiasm. The magazine published the piece online. Then, without warning, they removed it. Not because of inaccuracies or flaws, but because it clashed with their stance on AI. The message was clear: even well-reasoned discussions about transformative technology weren’t welcome.
That moment stung, but it also propelled me forward. If the profession’s premier platforms weren’t willing to engage with groundbreaking topics, I decided to write for those who were. Now, as a writer on numerous topics (including artificial intelligence), I help others navigate the challenges of emerging technology—unbound by institutional blinders.
